Chenoprosopus was named by Mehl (1913). It is not extant. Its type is Chenoprosopus milleri.
It was assigned to Temnospondyli by Mehl (1913); to Eryopoidea by Boy (1990); to Cochleosaurinae by Schoch (2013); and to Cochleosauridae by Carroll (1988), Sequeira (2004), Sidor et al. (2005) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
