Taxonomy

Sclerocephalus was named by Goldfuss (1847). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Eryopidae by Carroll (1988); to Actinodontidae by Watson (1919), Yates and Warren (2000) and Schoch and Milner (2000); to Stereospondylomorpha by Schoch (2013); and to Sclerocephalidae by Schoch and Witzmann (2009), Klembara and Steyer (2012) and Schoch and Sobral (2021).
