Taxonomy

Gyrocystis platessa was named by Jaekel (1918). It is the type species of Gyrocystis.

Synonyms

Decacystis hispanica was named by Gislen (1927). It is not extant.

It was corrected as Decacystis hispanicus by Termier and Termier (1973); it was synonymized subjectively with Gyrocystis platessa by Friedrich (1993) and Zamora (2009).
Decacystis praeellipticus was named by Termier and Termier (1973). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R09938 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Vélieux, au Sud de Montahuc (chemin du ravin), Minerve, which is in a Cambrian marine shale in the Coulouma Formation of France.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gyrocystis platessa by Friedrich (1993).

H. Termier and G. Termier 1973 (Decacystis praeellipticus)	I1 posshde en effet les 10 marginales et la dissymdtrie des plaques ant&ieures caractdristiques du genre. La marginale M6 est &roite ; M'6, trap4zoidale, n'est pas dans le plan de sym&rie. I1 s'ajoute cependant que M'6 et M'5 sont renfl&s vers l'ext4rieur et clue M6 est ensell4e. M6 et M'6 ont pris des caract6res nouveaux que nous retrouverons chez Elliptocinctus dans les marginales M6 et M'6.
