Taxonomy
Mahavisaurus was named by Lehman (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Mahavisaurus dentatus.
It was assigned to Rhinesuchoidea by Lehman (1966); to Rhytidosteidae by Warren and Black (1985); to Indobrachyopidae by Cosgriff and Zawiskie (1979) and Carroll (1988); and to Peltosteginae by Schoch and Milner (2000).
