Taxonomy
Plagiosauroidea was named by Abel (1919) [nom. transl. ex Plagiosauridae Abel 1919]. It is not extant. Its type is Plagiosaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Schoch (2013).

It was assigned to Stereospondylida by Kuhn (1971); to Temnospondyli by Carroll (1988); to Trematosauria by Yates and Warren (2000); and to Stereospondyli by Schoch (2013).
