Plagiosauridae was named by Abel (1919). It is not extant. Its type is Plagiosaurus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Brachyopidae by Kuhn (1946).
It was assigned to Rhachitomi by Abel (1919); to Plagiosauroidea by Kuhn (1971), Carroll (1988) and Yates and Warren (2000); to Temnospondyli by Jenkins et al. (2008) and Damiani et al. (2009); to Trematosauria by Schoch (2013); and to Brachyopoidea by Schoch and Milner (2014).
It was synonymized subjectively with Brachyopidae by Kuhn (1946).
