Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
W. L. Bryant 1932 (Cyrtaspis)Pteraspids with broadly ovate dorsal shield and ventral
shield about as wide as long. The rostrum is short and broad. The eyes, large and placed well forward, are indicated by notches in the dorsal shield. The bony carapace is thin. The visceral side of the dorsal shield bears no impressions of internal organs and hence must have overlaid a thick cartilaginous endocranium. Outer surface of carapace sculptured with fine grooves and beaded ridges. Number and arrangement of plates of dorsal shield unknown.
W. L. Bryant 1933 (Cyrtaspis)Forms closely related to the genus Protaspis and differing in the wider branchial plates and in the superficial ornamentation. This consists of continuous linear rows of beads or papille arranged to follow the contour of the various plates, thus forming a conspicuous and characteristic ornamentation.
