Atopocrinidae was named by Warn and Strimple (1977) [Family based on disparid crinoid Atopocrinus Lane 1970, both homonyms for the comatulid crinoid genus and family Atopocrinidae Messing 2011.]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Homocrinida by Ausich (1998).
