Catharacta antarctica lonnbergi was named by Mathews (1912). It is extant.

It was recombined as Catharacta skua lonnbergi by Tennyson and Millener (1994) and Tennyson and Scofield (2013); it was recombined as Stercorarius antarcticus lonnbergi by Clements et al. (2017).
