Annaecoelia was named by Senowbari-Daryan (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 941,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Annaecoelia maxima. It is the type genus of Annaecoeliidae.
It was assigned to Calcarea by Sepkoski (2002); to Tebagathalamiidae by Finks et al. (2004); and to Annaecoeliidae by Amirhassankhani et al. (2014) and Senowbari-Daryan and Rigby (2015).
