Taxonomy
Karaurus was named by Ivachnenko (1978). It is not extant. Its type is Karaurus sharovi. It is the type genus of Karauridae.
It was assigned to Batrachia by Maddin et al. (2012); and to Karauridae by Estes (1981), Nessov (1988), Carroll (1988), Shishkin (2000) and Skutschas and Gubin (2012).
