Venus securis was named by Shumard (1858). It is extant. It is the type species of Securella.
It was recombined as Venus (Chione) securis by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Chione securis by Clark (1932) and Weaver (1942); it was recombined as Chione (Securella) securis by Trumbull and Schumard (1958); it was recombined as Securella securis by Parker (1949) and Faustman (1964).
