Pelodytidae was named by Cope (1866) [also attributed to Bonaparte 1850]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Arcifera by Cope (1875); to Anura by Carroll (1988); to Anura by Henrici (1994); and to Pelobatoidea by Sanchiz (1998), Gao and Wang (2001), Hoegg et al. (2004), Henrici and Haynes (2006), Henrici (2009) and Chen et al. (2016).
