Taxonomy
Barasaurus was named by Piveteau (1955). Its type is Barasaurus besairiei.
It was assigned to Procolophonidae by Piveteau (1955); to Nyctiphruretidae by Carroll (1988); and to Owenettidae by Lee (1995), Lee (1997), Modesto and Damiani (2007) and Säilä (2008).
