Onychodus eriensis was named by Mann et al. (2017) [ZOOBANK NO.: D1C8D159-3336-4127-B644-4A4B27614F02]. Its type specimen is ROM 00198, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mill Point, which is in an Eifelian marine limestone in the Dundee Formation of Canada.
