Laiyangosaurus youngi
Taxonomy
Laiyangosaurus youngi was named by Zhang et al. (2019). Its type specimen is IVPP V 23401, a partial skull (A large left maxilla, a right squamosal, and a left dentary), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jingangkou Locality 2, Laiyang (BNHM), which is in a Campanian crevasse splay mudstone in the Jingangkou Formation of China. It is the type species of Laiyangosaurus.

Zhang et al. 2019 | Laiyangosaurus youngi is a saurolophine hadrosaurid distinguished by autapomorphies that include a prominent and narrow ridge on the lateral side of the nasal which forms the posterodorsal and posterior margin of the circumnasal depression, a primary ridge in most maxillary teeth slightly deflected posteriorly, a retroarticular process of the surangular that is dorsolateroposteriorly recurved, and an orbital margin that is wider than the infratemporal margin of the jugal. L. youngi can be further distinguished by a number of unique character combination that includes dorsal margin of nasal is flat, absence supracranial crest, a relatively shallow and rostrodorsally directed caudal margin of the jugal lacrimal process, and expended anteroposteriorly as well as one or more foramina on the rostral surface of the premaxilla |
