Taxonomy
Polycidaris gygii was named by Hostettler and Menkveld-Gfeller (2015). Its type specimen is FPJ 5441 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Plettenberg, near Dotternhausen, which is in an Oxfordian carbonate limestone in the Lochen Formation of Germany.
