Echinosphaerites difformis was named by Jaekel (1899) [= Sphaeronites stelluliferus, SALT, [ex parte]. — C. Malaise, 1873, p. 106, pi. 6, fig. 8 (non fig. 9 ) .]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is near Jõhvi, which is in a Kukruse marine shale in the Viivikonna Formation of Estonia.
