Taxonomy
Hemiaster sabinal was named by Cooke (1953). Its type specimen is USNM 108400 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 1873, Sabinal River, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian marine chalk in the Austin Chalk Formation of Texas.
