Isograptus caduceus maximodivergens was named by Harris (1933) [Isograptus caduceus var. maximo-divergens].

It was recombined as Isograptus maximodivergens by Beavis and Beavis (1974); it was recombined as Isograptus victoriae maximodivergens by Cooper (1973) and Carter and Tailleur (1984).
