Taxonomy
Pygurostoma pasionensis was named by Cooke (1949). Its type specimen is AMNH 26901 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Amelia, which is in a Campanian marine horizon in Guatemala.

It was corrected as Pygurostoma pasionense by Cooke (1953).
