Taxonomy
Bavarisaurus was named by Hoffstetter (1953). It is not extant. Its type is Bavarisaurus macrodactylus. It is the type genus of Bavarisauridae.

It was assigned to Iguanidae by Cocude-Michel (1963); to Bavarisauridae by Kuhn (1966), Estes (1983) and Carroll (1988); and to Squamata by Bolet and Evans (2010).
