Pentagonocyclicus kegelensis was named by Yeltyschewa (1966). It is the type species of Virucrinus.
It was recombined as Babanocrinus kegelensis by Hynda (1986); it was recombined as Babanicrinus kegelensis by Põlma et al. (1988); it was recombined as Virucrinus kegelensis by Rozhnov (1990).
