Nonotherium hennigi was named by Castellanos (1942). Its type specimen is MUFyCA 1, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Valle de Traslasierra - Heredia Cliffs, which is in a Montehermosan/Chapadmalalan floodplain gravel in the Brochero Formation of Argentina.
