Taxonomy
Darchansaurus was named by Sulimski (1975). Its type is Darchansaurus estesi.
It was assigned to Teiidae by Carroll (1988), Gao and Fox (1991) and Alifanov (1993); to Macrocephalosauridae by Sulimski (1975), Alifanov (2000) and Alifanov (2000); and to Polyglyphanodontinae by Estes (1983) and Xu et al. (2014).

Skull short, wide, massive and strongly constructed, with slanting naso-prefrontal region. Skull length about 56 mm, width 40 mm. Nasals short, roughly triangular.broad anteriorly. Frontals anteriorly widened, bent at an angle inrelation to the fronto-parietal surface, posteriorly elongated, with distinct orbital notches.
