It was assigned to Lacertinidae by d'Orbigny (1849); and to Lacertidae by Hay (1930), Kotsakis (1977), Estes (1983), Carroll (1988), Frank and Ramus (1996), Böhme (2008), Venczel and Stiuca (2008), Böhme (2010), Vianey-Liaud et al. (2014) and Cernansky et al. (2015).
