Taxonomy
Perisphinctes explanatus was named by Neumayr (1871). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ciofronca (GBA collection), which is in a Kimmeridgian carbonate limestone in Romania.
It was recombined as Simoceras explanatum by Preda (1973); it was recombined as Presimoceras explanatum by Grigore (2010).
