Helodermoides was named by Douglass (1903). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Glyptosaurus by Hay (1930) and McDowell and Bogert (1954).

It was assigned to Reptilia by Douglass (1903); to Glyptosaurini by Estes (1983); to Anguidae by Carroll (1988) and Maddox and Wall (1998); and to Glyptosaurinae by Sullivan (1986) and Smith (2006).
