Hpanraais problematicus was named by Jiang et al. (2019). Its type specimen is NIGP 168934, a tegmen, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber, Kachin amber (NIGP collection), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar.
It was recombined as Cretotettigarcta problematica by Jiang et al. (2024).
