Taxonomy
Arca hamelini was named by Wiedey (1928). Its type specimen is SDSNH 18, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LSJU loc. 407, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Arca (Anadara) hamelini by Loel and Corey (1932); it was recombined as Anadara (Cunearca) hamelini by Reinhart (1943); it was recombined as Scapharca (Cunearca) hamelini by Moore (1983).
