Physodoceras widerai was named by Scherzinger et al. (2018). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Liptingen quarry (KWV-Jura-Steinwerke), bed 15a, which is in a Tithonian carbonate limestone in the Hangende–Bankkalke Formation of Germany.
