Taxonomy
Riojasuchus was named by Bonaparte (1969). Its type is Riojasuchus tenuisceps. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Ornithosuchidae by Bonaparte (1975), Carroll (1988), Benton (1990), Sereno (1991) and Parrish (1993); and to Ornithosuchidae by Nesbitt (2011) and Von Baczko and Ezcurra (2013).
