Taxonomy
Rauisuchidae was named by Huene (1942). Its type is Rauisuchus. It is the type family of Rauisuchia. It was considered unknown by Sulej (2005) and monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Rauisuchidae by Nesbitt (2011).

It was assigned to Ornithosuchoidea by Kuhn (1964); to Pseudosuchia by Krebs (1965); to Chirotherioidea by Kuhn (1966); to Pseudosuchida by Kuhn (1971); to Rauisuchia by Galton (1985), Carroll (1988) and Parrish (1993); to Rauisuchia by Long and Murry (1995) and Sulej (2005); and to Loricata by Nesbitt (2011).

B. Krebs 1965Grosswüchsige Pseudosuchier. Schädel mit mittelgrosser Präorbitalöffnung. Thecodontes Gebiss mit relativ wenigen, grossen, zugespitzten, randlieh gekerbten Zähnen. Ungefähr 24 Präsacralwirbel, zwei Sacralwirbel, um 50 Schwanzwirbel. Halsrippenschäfte untereinander gelenkig verbunden. Längliche Scapula, ovales, caudal nicht oder kaum eingebuchtetes Coracoid mit kleinem Foramen. Extrem dreistrahliges Becken mit geschlossenem Acetabulum, an welchem alle drei Elemente beteiligt sind. Schlanke, lange Extremitäten. Länge Humerus + Radius erreicht rund drei Viertel vom Femur + Tibia. Radius ungefähr gleich lang wie Humerus. Tarsus mit vier Elementen, Gelenkkopf-Gelenkpfanne-Verbindung zwischen Astragalus und Calcaneus, kräftiger Tuber calcanei. Metatarsale V gekrümmt. Über Hals und Rumpf paarige, über Schwanz einfache Reihe kleiner dermaler Knochenschilder.
