Taxonomy
Rauisuchus was named by Huene (1942). Its type is Rauisuchus tiradentes. It is the type genus of Rauisuchidae, Rauisuchinae. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).

It was assigned to Rauisuchinae by Huene (1942); to Rauisuchidae by Kuhn (1966), Carroll (1988), Parrish (1993) and Long and Murry (1995); and to Rauisuchidae by Nesbitt (2011) and Lautenschlager and Rauhut (2015).
