Palaeoheterodonta was named by Newell (1965) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6495].
It was corrected as Paleoheterodonta by Shoshani et al. (1989); it was reranked as the unranked clade Palaeoheterodonta by Bouchet et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Pelecypoda by Shoshani (1989) and Shoshani et al. (1989); to Bivalvia by Newell (1965), Vokes (1980), Cope (1997) and Reid (1998); to Heteroconchia by Giribet and Wheeler (2002) and Bieler and Mikkelsen (2006); and to Heteroconchia by Bouchet et al. (2010).
It was corrected as Paleoheterodonta by Shoshani et al. (1989); it was reranked as the unranked clade Palaeoheterodonta by Bouchet et al. (2010).
