Taxonomy
Inoceramus turgidus was named by Anderson (1958). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 28171 - Chico Creek [Chico Fm], which is in a Santonian marine sandstone in the Chico Formation of California.

F. M. Anderson 1958Shell large and unusually thick, roundly robust; beaks elevated above hinge line, tumid, approximate ; hinge line straight ; surface marked by heavy concentric ridges, showing a tendency to form beadlike nodes on the concentric ridges. The external measurements of the holotype are as follows: length, 100 mm; height, 90 mm; breadth of both valves, 80 mm; number of concentric undulations, 10 or more. The form is unique among Inocerami of the West Coast.
