Neomorphotis gigantea was named by Yin and Yin (1983). It is not extant. Its type locality is Qieermagou Bed 1, 73YPVIIF3-2, Xiahuancang, Tianjun District, which is in an Anisian marine horizon in the Qieerma Formation of China.
It was synonymized subjectively with Eumorphotis buhaheensis by Fang et al. (2009).
