Doratodon was named by Seeley (1881). It is not extant. Its type is Crocodilus carcharidens.

It was assigned to Dinosauria by Seeley (1881); to Ceratopsia by Zittel (1890); to Hsisosuchidae by Carroll (1988); to Ziphosuchia by Company et al. (2005); to Notosuchia by Bronzati et al. (2012); and to Sebecosuchia by Rabi and Sebők (2015).
