Turritella moodyi was named by Applin (1920) [Merriam 1943: "Manuscript names proposed by Esther Richards Applin appear in a dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Master of Arts at the University of California in 1920."]. Its type specimen is 12452 and is a 3D body fossil.
