Botroclonium was named by Pocta (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K u Sepkoski's reference number: 622]. It is not extant. Its type is Botroclonium arborescens.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Laocoetidinae by Finks et al. (2004).
