Angiopteridium was named by Schimper (1869). It is not extant. Its type is Angiopteridium muensteri.
It was replaced with Marattiopsis by Schimper (1874).
It was assigned to Cycadaceae by Pineda (1961); to Marattiaceae by Knowlton (1919) and Lakhanpal et al. (1976); and to Marattiales by Chandra and Tewari (1991).
