Gymnites moelleri was named by von Mojsisovics (1882). It is not extant. Its type locality is Between Monte Clapsavon and Forni di Sotto, which is in a Ladinian carbonate limestone in Italy.
It was recombined as Epigymnites moelleri by Fantini Sestini (1994).
