Rhinopteraspis was named by Jaekel (1919). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pteraspidinae by Denison (1970); to Pteraspididae by Blieck (1984); and to Rhinopteraspididae by Randle and Sansom (2017).

R. H. Denison 1970Moderate-sized to large pteraspids. The rostrum
much elongated, with a preoral field formed by a separate plate. Branchial openings in advance of the postero-lateral corners of the dorsal shield, but the cornual plates reduced or absent.
