Taxonomy
Aeschynomene tertiara was named by Prakash (1963). Its type specimen is BSIP 10301, a wood, and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Mahurzari, which is in a Paleogene lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal horizon in the Deccan Intertrappean Formation of India.

It was recombined as Aeschynomenoxylon tertiarum by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Wheeler et al. (2017).
