Ophiacodon
Taxonomy
Ophiacodon was named by Marsh (1878). It is not extant. Its type is Ophiacodon mirus. It is the type genus of Ophiacodontidae.
It was assigned to Clepsydropidae by Hay (1902); to Ophiacodontia by Olson (1966); to Synapsida by Gauthier et al. (1989); and to Ophiacodontidae by Hay (1930), Romer (1936), Romer and Price (1940), Lewis and Vaughn (1965), Kuhn (1966), Reisz (1986), Carroll (1988), Kissel and Lehman (2002) and Haubold et al. (2005).
It was assigned to Clepsydropidae by Hay (1902); to Ophiacodontia by Olson (1966); to Synapsida by Gauthier et al.
