Taxonomy
Caloxanthus was named by Milne-Edwards (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u T Dani Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Caloxanthus formosus.

It was assigned to Xanthidae by Rathbun (1935); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Etyidae by Armstrong et al. (2009) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Feldmanniidae by Schweitzer et al. (2012), Klompmaker et al. (2015) and Schweitzer et al. (2017).
