Cancer boeckhi was named by Lörenthey (1898).

It was recombined as Ceronnectes boeckhi by de Angeli and Beschin (1998), Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2012) and Beschin et al. (2016); it was recombined as Necronectes boeckhi by Schweitzer et al. (2002); it was recombined as Ceronnectes boeckhii by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019).
