Taxonomy
Brithopodidae was named by Efremov (1954). It is not extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Brithopodinae by King (1988); it was synonymized subjectively with Anteosauridae by Battail and Surkov (2000).

It was assigned to Eodeinocephalia by Olson (1962); to Brithopia by Kemp (1982); to Titanosuchia by Carroll (1988); and to Brithopidae by King (1988).
