Pleurostoma was named by Roemer (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sn T Eo]. It is not extant. Its type is Pleurostoma radiatum.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leptophragmatinae by Finks et al. (2004).
