Stevens 1996The cranial characterization of the subgenus is the same as for the genus as defined by Merycoidodon culbertsoni, a species with a small auditory bulla that has a deep hyoidal groove (see Thorpe, 1937a, fig. 7A). It differs from M. (Otarohyus) by a small auditory bulla with a deep hyoidal groove.
